Hayden Rockey's Story

I have been in the IT industry over the last 6 years and over that time I have worked for a web design company, local government and a construction company. During this time I learnt a lot about server administration, networking and security technology on the job but none of these companies offered any formal training.

For this reason I decided to find a way I could validate my skills in the form of an industry recognised qualification. Firebrand was the obvious choice for me as they are industry recognised and provided good material for training and development.

I chose to start with a Microsoft MTA course in networking, security and server administration as this would give me the fundamental learning to progress to other training modules. This turned out to be wise as there was a lot of material contained within the MTA course I hadn't touched upon during the 6 years of experience I have within an IT environment.

I found the course very tough, we did all 3 modules followed by a test over 6 days. This meant a huge amount of subject matter packed into long days with revision in the evenings. I felt very pressured to learn quickly and revise a lot - this method of learning is certainly not for the faint hearted.

That said I passed all 3 of my exams and gained an Authenticated Certification in under a week.

This course greatly improved my understanding on all 3 subjects, I got a slight pay rise as I am now qualified and most of all has improved my confidence to tackle more involved issues.
